Art in your Home

Hansonmanta

Artist Spotlight: Scott Hanson

Have you ever noticed that there are no homes without any kind of art? While tastes differ, it is a fact that artwork is an important part of our surroundings and many of us cannot imagine life without it.

Whale What does art mean to you? Are you a collector and look at it as an investment, do you pick pieces that evoke something in you, or are you looking at the decorative aspect of art and choose works that match the rest of your interior design?

Art also gives a unique character to any home and can visually increase its perceived value. There are no rules for choosing the “right” work of art. Just keep in mind, that you might change the color of your couch in a few years, but not your personal taste. So instead of trying to match colors in your home, choose work that appeals to you because it makes you feel something.

DolphinsArt carries emotions, it can cheer us up, make us think, wonder, and inspire us. According to German writer Kurt Tucholsky, “there is only one criterium in art, that is the goosebumps. One either has them or not.”

I recently met Scott Hanson, photographer and master sculptor, who became a client of mine. I was so impressed by his work that I am sharing it with you today.

Scott’s sculptures capture the essence of the ocean, its inhabitants, seabirds, the wind, and the waves. He is a true waterman, spending much time on the ocean or diving to greet whales and dolphins in their environment. An avid free diver, he is able to hold his breath for more than five minutes!

His work ranges from table sculptures to monumental pieces of over 18 feet in height.

You can find his work at Kona Oceanfront Gallery on Alii Drive and at other fine galleries in Hawaii and on the mainland.

In the future, I will introduce more Big Island artists. For today I wish you all good inspiration, and, of course, goosebumps!
